There are proposals to move the Burnham Surgery away from the town centre.

The Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale MP has accepted an invitation by Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council to attend a public debate about the proposed relocation of the Burnham Surgery.

This follows moves to relocate the surgery, currently in Foundry Lane, to Burnham Waters, the new development being built on the outskirts of the town.

It follows a letter that was sent yesterday to Sir John by the town mayor, Duncan Rawlinson, in which the mayor said:

‘As you will know, Burnham has seen great expansion over the past few years with a large amount of new housing developments, and with that comes change. However, there is now an issue which means that the Doctor’s Surgery in Burnham may be moved to the large Burnham Waters development, on the very outskirts of our town. This is now understood to be the preferred option and it is causing great anxiety for our constituents as it is out of town, not on a bus route, and therefore remote for those people who do not have their own transportation. It is my understanding that other locations closer or in town have not been seriously considered.

My request is to arrange a suitable date in your diary for you to attend a public debate in Burnham, as urgently as possible.’

Sir John replied today by calling the Mayor personally and agreeing to attend a meeting in late August.
