17th July 2023

Burnham-on-Crouch Town Council is hosting a Kite Festival on Sunday 13th August. It will begin at midday at Riverside Park.

This, the Council’s first, is aimed at young children and families, though there will be a professional display by experienced kite-fliers.

The Kite Festival is, of course, weather-dependent. Heavy rain and and a howling gale will rule it out.

People are encouraged to bring their own kites, but for this year we want to avoid big stunt kites – they can be dangerous when they swoop and dive. So, if you can’t resist bringing a stunt kite, please do not swoop it at low level.

There will be a competition, with prizes, for the best kite made out of recycled materials.

The Town Council will be providing free kites for children to colour-in and fly. Paints and colouring pens will be provided for the job.

Do bring a picnic, or buy refreshments from the stalls that will be at the event.

‘LET’S GO FLY A KITE, UP TO THE HIGHEST HEIGHT, LET’S GO FLY A KITE AND SEND IT SOARING, UP THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERE, UP WHERE THE AIR IS CLEAR, OH LET’S GO, FLY A KITE’ (etc, repeat until happy, with acknowledgements to Mary Poppins and Disney).
