Riverside Park – Road and car park resurfacing works – 13th July to 22nd July

MDC Capital Project: Riverside Park, roadway and car park surfacing works

Project Start Date: Monday 13th July

Estimated Project Completion Date: Wednesday 22nd July (contingency dates 23rd & 24th July)

Onsite Operational Times: 07.30am – 17:30, Monday to Friday

MDC would like to communicate and circulate that there will be much needed road and car park surfacing works in operation at Riverside Park from Monday 13th July with an estimated completion on Wednesday 22nd July.

The works will include full SMA resurfacing of the roadway that leads from the Station Road junction (adjacent to the library) and runs to where the new skate park is situated. MDC are pleased to include that the project budget has also allowed for the current and well used hard standing car park to be resurfaced with SMA. The works will include lining of the new car park surface with regulation size vehicle bays, this will offer a more structured and managed car parking system.

Any defective curbing, ironmongery and gulley’s will be replaced as required during the works. The current speed humps will be reinstated once the new road surface has been laid and there will be two additional humps installed along the roadway as a further speeding deterrent and improved road safety.

MDC are aware that traffic and pedestrian management via our contractor will be crucial throughout the duration of the works due to the high usage / footfall that this location receives on a daily basis. We will try and minimise the impact on the community, Dengie 100 Sports Centre and the Sports Club as much as reasonably possible. There will be short term impact whilst the works are in operation and this will consist of traffic management systems, part road closures, full road closures and a reduction of onsite parking.

Advanced warning signage will be supplied and installed onsite via the contractor before the works start.

Phases of work:

  1. Resurfacing of the hard standing car park and part 1 road location – 5 days in duration. Excavation and removal of current aggregate surface, installation of base and SMA surfacing install. No drainage to be included as the cross fall will be sufficient along with the permeable SMA. The lining and marking will be completed at the end of the works. The entire car park and adjoining road will be isolated from operation and public access for 5 days.
  2. Resurfacing part 2 of the road – 3 days in duration. Scalping of the current surface (40mm) and new SMA surfacing install (40mm). The road way will be limited and / or isolated from use during the 3 day period.
  3. Lining and marking works. Car park, road surface and speed humps marked in line with Highway Reg’s. Limited use and isolations for 1 day.
