Support for community and metal health spaces in Burnham-on-crouch

A few organisations who offer mental health support activities that reach into Burnham:

  • Mid Essex Recovery College – creating safe spaces for people to learn new skills, expand on existing ones and attend free courses to support mental health recovery (first attached)
  • Mid Essex Talking Therapies – keen to directly reach those who may experience anxiety or depression (second attached)
  • Mid Essex and North Essex Mind – offer a variety of mental health support services. One Maldon District Partnership recently commissioned them to undertake mental health counselling at Ormiston. An example of another recent service they have rolled out is their Bereaved by Suicide Support Service

The following online platforms offer a more comprehensive overview of mental health support and social activities:

  • Essex Frontline – helping frontline workers and the public quickly find details on local health and wellbeing services and to contact services through call back and referral options. Can be drilled down by post code.
  • Maldon District Connects – the CVS’s local support page which can be drilled down by town or village.

Regarding setting up a social space in the evening, key people to bring into the conversation would be the following:

  • Burnham and Southminster URC Community Worker – they run the Community in a Cup event in Burnham along many other community activities. They are also overseeing the opening of The Hive community space in Southminster The Hive | Facebook
  • Local Library Manager – the library manager has recently used One Maldon funding to promote social spaces at his library sites in the evenings. Lots of learning and practicalities to share.
  • Maldon CVS Suicide Prevention Lead – they are exploring rollout of ‘pop up lounges’ as social spaces for people to connect: Public Living Room – Maldon & District Community Voluntary Service
  • Active Essex Foundation – their development officer has recently worked with One Maldon to fund local partners to rollout sports activities in the Dengie for young people at risk of crime and exploitation.
