MDC Announces Public Survey for Skatepark Redevelopment

***UPDATE – WE’VE JUST BEEN TOLD BY MDC THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER FORECAST***

Maldon District Council have launched of a public survey seeking community input on the redevelopment of the skateparks in Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch.

The survey is available at https://www.maldon.gov.uk/skateparksurvey and will remain open until Monday 17 June.

This initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and engaging public spaces that cater to the needs and desires of our residents and visitors.

The survey was launched on Wednesday 15 May and aims to gather valuable feedback on the usage of the current skateparks and to understand the community’s vision for the new facilities. The Council encourages everyone to share their thoughts on what features and improvements they would like to see in the redeveloped skateparks.

This project has been made possible through Section 106 funding, a mechanism that allows local authorities to secure financial contributions from developers as part of the planning permission process. These contributions are specifically allocated to mitigate the impact of development and enhance community infrastructure. In this case, Section 106 funding is dedicated solely to the skatepark redevelopment, ensuring that these enhancements serve the local community effectively.

In addition to the online survey, the Council will host in-person engagement sessions at the skateparks in Promenade Park, Maldon, on Tuesday 28 May, and at Burnham Riverside Park on Friday 31 May.

These sessions provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to discuss the skatepark project directly with council staff.

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader of Maldon District Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Skateparks are more than just recreational facilities; they are vibrant hubs for exercise, creativity, and safe socialisation for young people. We are eager to hear from residents and visitors through this survey. Your insights will help us ensure that the redeveloped skateparks truly reflect the spirit and aspirations of our community. Let’s work together to create spaces where young people can thrive, and everyone can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.”
