26th February 2019

Burnham Town Councillors have voted to send a letter (see below) to Maldon District Council that is highly critical of the decision to allow a Retirement Complex to be built off Tinker’s Hole.

At an Extraordinary meeting at 7pm on Tuesday 26th February, councillors approved text that criticises MDC planning officers for not following directions in Burnham’s Neighbourhood Development Plan and MDC’s own Local Development Plan.

The letter declares a ‘loss of confidence in the ability and willingness’ of the officers to ‘deliver on the letter or spirit’ of the plans.

The meeting was well attended by local residents concerned about the new development.

The voting was as follows: FOR: Councillors Vanessa Bell, Neil Pudney, Nick Skeens and Wendy Stamp. AGAINST: Councillor Mike Wood. ABSTAINED: Councillor Ron Pratt.

The meeting was called at short notice and the following members were absent: Councillors Bob Calver, Helen Elliott, Peter Elliott, and Louise Pudney.
