4th November 2022

This package commits to supporting residents over the winter, particularly those affected by the cost-of-living crisis and rise in energy prices. Local launches will be taking places at libraries across Essex on Saturday 5 November.

While libraries across the county are open year-round for residents, Warm Welcomes will offer further opportunities for residents to visit libraries in order to keep warm, get advice and information and stay connected with others this winter.

Additional support being launched today includes extra clubs and activities such as advice sessions, arts and crafts and a homework club, as well as advice on things like support, employment and training opportunities. The offer will vary across libraries – to find out what is available and what is on in each library, please visit: https://libraries.essex.gov.uk/.

In addition to library staff helping facilitate activities and engaging with library users, ‘Warm Welcomes’ volunteers will be deployed across the county’s libraries. These volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to those in need, and run activities, clubs and events.

Recruitment is ongoing for volunteers. For more information and to apply to become a Warm Welcomes volunteer, visit https://www.volunteeressex.org/opportunities/warm-welcomes-library-volunteer-13473/.

Whether it is popping in for a hot drink and a chat, coming in to use our free Wi-Fi in a quiet and warm environment, or wanting to make new friends or try something new, our hope is that there is something for everyone this winter at Essex libraries.
